MAMA Show Rules & Guidelines
Before attending a Mid-Atlantic Mouse Association event, you should take the time to familiarize yourself with the following rules and guidelines. Please read through them carefully, to prevent disqualification or evicted from a show.
- You MUST purchase a table at any MAMA event in order to show or sell your mice. There will be no sales or trades in the parking lot.
- All mice must be exhibited by
their owner or other responsible person, and at that person's own
risk. The Mid-Atlantic Mouse Association (MAMA) will do everything
in its power to prevent injury to a mouse at a show, but the
Association shall not be held responsible by any party for the loss,
death or injury of any mouse.
- The only show preparations allowed
by the MAMA consist of wiping the coat with a soft cloth and
brushing of the coat. Any other preparations or alterations made to a mouse, such as plucking or changing the color of the coat before a show, will result in immediate disqualification of the mouse from exhibition and penalties for the exhibitor. Any mouse winning a
title, that is later found to have been altered, will have the title
revoked.
- Once entry and show box fees are
made, they are not refundable. Anyone not showing up to their class
on time with their mouse will forfeit all fees paid.
- Listing a mouse in the wrong
Variety, Section, or Class will result in the mouse's immediate
disqualification. Entries can not be changed after the deadline.
Exceptions can be made where it can be proved that the information
was written down incorrectly by the show secretary.
- The owner or responsible person
exhibiting a mouse, are responsible for taking them to and removing
them from the judging table in a timely fashion so as not to hold up
the judging procedure.
- All discussions of exhibits is
prohibited before and during judging. Conversation between
exhibitors at or near the judging table should be kept to a minimum
and it should not distract, influence, or imply whose mouse is being
judged in any way. If you have questions about your mouse, ask the
judge after the class is placed. If your mouse is to go on to
Section judging, then please hold your questions until after your
mouse has been eliminated from the competition.
- The judge's final decision is not
subject to change. The only way a final placement may be changed is
if the winner is found to have been involved in misconduct resulting
in the exhibitor’s immediate disqualification and revocation of
any awards.
- All members and exhibitors should
behave in a manner that is sportsman-like. Any member or exhibitor
involved in misconduct as determined by the MAMA rules and
regulations are subject to penalties as decided by the Board of
Directors.
- Any mouse literature being
distributed at an MAMA function needs to be preapproved by a Board
of Directors (BOD) member.
- All mice will be judged according
to the MAMA Standards as described in this book.
- To receive the discounted price
for pre-registered entries, all entry fees and mouse information
must be filled out and received prior to the entry deadline. Any
entries being filled out the day of the show will be subject to
day-of registration costs and not eligible for the pre-registration
discount.
- Each individual exhibitor needs
to fill out his or her own entry blank. If an entry blank is not
available, a piece of paper with all the necessary information in
the correct order will suffice.
- Day-of entries will cost $5.00 per
mouse and are limited to 10 mice per member. Entry forms need to be
filled out before reaching the show location, so that they are ready
to hand to the show secretary upon arrival at the show.
- If you are unsure which class a
mouse should be entered in, then please make a note on the entry
blank of "check color". Pre-registrations that are
submitted with this information and that need to be checked the day
of the show for color will still be entitled to the pre-registration
fee.
- All mice should be shown in
Kritter Keepers. Please use size: Small Kritter Keeper - (9.13"L x 6" x 6.63"H) The box must not have any identifying marks,
other than the exhibitors name and a unique number on the bottom of
the cage. Mice should be shown on clean White Carefresh. You are
required to provide your own bedding. Small bags of bedding may be
available for purchase at the show.
- Mice do not have to arrive at the
show in their show boxes. Exhibitors may bring enough show boxes for
the largest class only, and bring all their mice in more comfortable
cages to spend the rest of the day. For example, if you have 3 Self,
1 Ticked, and 4 AOCP entered, you will need 4 show boxes. Show boxes
may be ordered before the show or purchased at the show. Show boxes
may also be rented for $3 at the show.
- Feel free to label your cages
with the types of mice you have inside and your name. So that any
visitors can know what variety they are looking at. Do not write on
the show boxes.
- Please make sure you arrive on
time to be health checked and to enter day-of entries. Make sure you
do not hold up the health checker or show registration. The show
will start promptly at the announced time, anyone arriving late run
the risk of having their mice skipped during their class. The show
will start before health checking ends. If you know your mouse is
going to be on the table earlier than the health check cut-off,
arrive in time to have your mouse checked, registered (if
necessary), and on the table when it is called.
- Any member or exhibitor attending
the show must either quarantine all mice coming to the show in a
separate air space for no less than 4 weeks, or must not bring any
new animals into their mousery 4 weeks prior to the show. All mice
being sold or exhibited that day must have been in that person's
possession for no less than 4 weeks.
- All mice attending the show
(whether show or otherwise) will be health checked at the door. Any
mice found to be in poor condition; scabs, greasy coat,
malnourished, lethargic, sneezing, etc., must be removed from the
show hall. Colored dots on cages will denote whether a cage is ok or
not (Green means "go", Red means "no").
- All members and exhibitors are
asked to bring a bottle of hand sanitizer for their own personal
use, and for you to ask any visitors to use before handling your
animals.
- Each variety section judging will
be announced 3 times, so that exhibitors can begin to prepare their
animals being judged in that section. Each class will be announced
ahead of time, but it is the responsibility of the exhibitor to know
what is on the table and when they need to get their mice on the
table.
- If a mouse is not present to be
shown that day, the exhibitor may either offer a substitution, which
the entry may be changed during day-of registration. The
exhibitor should inform the show secretary during day-of
registration or the steward before judging of the class, so as not
to hold up judging.
- Removing a mouse from the judging
table before requested to do so will result in a forfeit of any
awards the mouse may have won,
- Copies of the judging cards will
be mailed to all exhibitors within 30 days of the show's end.
