This is a list of basic questions that you can ask yourself while choosing which mice to enter in a show.

- Is the mouse under 4
weeks of age?
- Is the mouse too old?
The ideal age for a mouse being shown is between 8 and 14 weeks.
- Is the mouse pregnant
or nursing?
- Does the mouse have any
health problems that would prevent it from passing a health check?
Any problems that would get it disqualified? Eliminated?
- Is the mouse in poor
condition?
- Is the coat dull or
greasy? Is it rough or separated?
- Does the mouse act
abnormal? Lethargic? Excessive scratching? Breathing heavily?
Hunched appearance?
- Is the mouse wild
acting? Does it bite?
- Does the mouse have
poor overall type?
- Does the mouse not meet
the accepted standard for its class, section, or variety?
- Does the mouse have any
features that would fault it or disqualify it from competition?
- Does the mouse have any
limbs missing? Whiskers? Is the tail kinked?
- Does the mouse have any
identifying marks on its body?
If you have answered “Yes” to any of the above questions, then leave that particular mouse at home.
